Diaper sales!

The nice thing about your second pregnancy is if you saved everything like I did, you already have lots of baby “stuff”.  We have a crib, changing table, swing, baby bathtub, a Kick and Play piano gym (this was one of Tessa’s favorites), burp cloths, an un-expired car seat, breast pump, and clothes.  Whew!  These are just a few of the large and small baby items in our storage room.  It is amazing how one small human can take up so much room with so many big items.

During you’re first pregnancy, the time will come to walk the Target aisles with the scanner to create your baby registry.  Personally, I didn’t get to actually use the scanner.  Ryan loved scanning for our wedding registry, therefore he was excited to get that entertainment again with the baby registry.

It is exciting to see the latest and greatest of the cutest trends.  You can hear lots of “oohs!” and “awes!” coming from the baby section.  It’s easy to get carried away and register or buy entirely too many things that you and baby will never use, such as a wipe warmer, expensive clothes, baby shoes for newborns, and baby bedding sets.  Babies grow so quickly that they aren’t able to wear clothes very long before they grow out of them.  They also don’t need shoes until they are starting to walk.   Baby bedding sets are not safe for babies, so should be avoided.

My game plan this time is simple.  Create a registry online to help track things we need and compare items and prices.  Delete what we decide against buying.  Plus, before the babies arrive, I’ll receive a coupon in the mail for a certain percent off items on my registry. I thought through the items we don’t need vs. what we do need.

My Target cart full of diapers!

My Target cart full of diapers!

By far what we will need the most is diapers and wipes, and lots of them.  We started with a purchase of about 1000 wipes.  When they arrived I told Ryan, “This is a great start!”  This weekend I started stockpiling diapers during Target’s diaper sale.  Buy three boxes at a sale price and get a $20 gift card.  I love getting gift cards.  I save these to help buy other things we need.  Taking advantage of these sales are a gamble.  You never know when the next week it’s followed up with a “Buy two get a $30 gift card.”  It was a risk I was willing to take.  This weekend I bought 9 boxes of Pampers and Target’s Up and Up diapers.  My cart was overflowing.  I felt everyone was checking out my overstocked cart.  Two gals even said, “Wow, you’re really stocking up!”  I blurted out, “I’m expecting twins!”  It just sort of came out, like I owed them an explanation to justify my overflowing cart.

I arrived home and thought Ryan was going to fall over when I opened the van to show him the beginning of our stockpile.  I think the shock stayed with him most of the day.  Potentially, we could go through 100 diapers a week in the beginning, and even more as they get older.  Luckily our house has plenty of storage!
