Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement taking place on November 30, 2021 - a day that encourages people to do good.
Our fundraising goal for Giving Tuesday 2021 is $10,000 in support of the Dr. Joe Rhoades Cancer Compassion fund. This fund is 100% donor funded and provides financial support to patients and families going through cancer treatment at the William R. Bliss Cancer Center. Going through the cancer journey is hard enough, having access to this kind of financial support allows patients to be able to deal with unexpected costs and bring peace of mind during a very stressful time!
Some of the benefits include:
- Gas cards for those who travel far distances
- Overnight accommodations for treatment
- Special treatment related needs – warrior caps, homemaker services, etc.

Former cancer patient Larry Northup and his wife Sherry will match the first $5,000 in gifts to the Dr. Joe Rhoades Cancer Compassion Fund between now and Giving Tuesday (November 30, 2021). This is the perfect time to double your gift and impact!
“As a former patient who benefitted greatly from cancer treatment at Mary Greeley, I have a real soft spot for the radiation oncology department and the staff who provided such wonderful care. I currently serve as a volunteer at the Bliss Cancer Center north desk and meet people as they arrive for their radiation treatment, as I once did. It’s allowed me to see first-hand that some are much less fortunate than I was.
Some worry about being able to make it to their next appointment as they could barely afford gas or transportation to make it in that day. Sherry and I are honored to support the Dr. Joe Rhoades Compassion Fund which offers help and hope for these patients in need during an already difficult time. “
