The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency Medical Technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance. The Emergency Medical Technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system. Upon successful completion of the EMT course, students will be eligible to test for EMT certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT). Upon successfully earning NREMT certification students may apply for their Iowa EMT license.
Applications will be accepted beginning in April 2019 until July 2019 (or until the class is full) for the Fall 2019 course, and require a $50, non-refundable application fee. Within 48 hours of your application fee being received, you will receive an email with a link to the online application.
As part of your application we require:
- a letter explaining why you would like to take the EMT course
- a professional resume
- a copy of your High School Diploma or GED
- your current CPR card or you will be enrolled in the course at Mary Greeley offered prior to to the first EMT Course class (Date TBD)
Upon acceptance into the EMT program you will be required to pay a $350, non-refundable deposit to save your spot in the class and begin the registration process.
