2026 High School Volunteer Opportunities

Students entering their junior or senior year this fall are invited to apply for the Summer Wayfinding Volunteer opportunity at Mary Greeley Medical Center.
Wayfinding Volunteer Role
- Help patients and visitors navigate the facility
- Offer a welcoming and supportive presence
- Make deliveries throughout the medical center
This meaningful volunteer opportunity allows students to gain experience in a healthcare setting while making a positive impact on patients, families, and visitors.
The deadline to apply to be a High School Volunteer has passed for 2026 – opportunities for 2027 will be posted in the spring.
Volunteer Requirements to consider before applying:
Applicants must be entering their junior or senior year of high school.
Health requirements include documentation of:
- Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccination
- Varicella (chickenpox) vaccination
- Tuberculosis (TB) test (provided by Mary Greeley)
Background checks:
- Criminal background check
- Older adult and Child Abuse Registry checks
- Motor Vehicle Check – for Meals on Wheels Service
- A valid Social Security Number is required to complete these checks

Vickie Newell has worked at Mary Greeley Medical Center since February 1991 and currently serves as the Volunteer and Older Adult Services Manager. Prior to that, she was the Community Relations Assistant and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Newell received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Leisure Studies with an emphasis in Therapeutic Recreation from Iowa State University in 1990. She has served on the Heartland Senior Services Board of Directors, Story County Healthy Lifestyles Task Force, and Healthiest Ames sub-committee focusing on older adult physical activity.

Danielle Linder joined Mary Greeley Medical Center in January 2022 and currently serves as the External Relations Constituent Engagement Coordinator. In this role, she supports Volunteer Services, The Mary Greeley Foundation, and Older Adult Services. Prior to her current role, she was the Volunteer Coordinator. Before joining Mary Greeley, she proudly managed her family’s business, Mary Kay’s Flowers, founded in 1974, serving as a third-generation leader for nearly 20 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies from Iowa State University.
