Scholarships

Mary Greeley Medical Center has several scholarship opportunities for area high school seniors pursuing a health career, nursing students, and Mary Greeley Medical Center employees.

Applications for 2019 will be available no later than February 1, 2019. Applications for this year were due on March 30, 2018. For more information, please contact External Relations at 239-2147.

2018-2019 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

The Foundation awarded 10 scholarships and seven of the 10 are employees or children of Mary Greeley employees. These scholarships not only support the education of health care professionals, but also honor individuals for their significant contributions to health care and Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Recipients include:

  • Bonnie Castro works in Ambulatory Care as the Clinical Supervisor and is working toward her Masters in Nursing – Leadership / Management at Western Governors University. She received the Phyllis E. Crouse Legacy Scholarship.
  • Thomas Lunaburg works on 5A Oncology as a Patient Care Technician, working on his Associates Degree in Nursing at DMACC. He received the Opal Hand Fagle Nursing Scholarship.
  • Asiya Qayyum has worked at Mary Greeley as a phlebotomist in the lab since 2009. She is attending DMACC and received the J. Ben Buck Scholarship.
  • Elizabeth Rohret is a Nurse on Acute Rehab and is utilizing the on-site RN to BSN program through Upper Iowa University.
  • Brandi Rahto is a Nurse in the Birthways Unit and is working on her Masters in Nursing – Leadership / Management degree at Western Governor’s University. She received the Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship.
  • Hannah Casey and Jordann Nagel each received a Helen Sidles Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship. Hannah works on 5A Oncology as a Patient Care Technician and is earning her nursing degree at DMACC. Jordann is the daughter of Shelly Nagel, Clinical Supervisor of 4B Med Tele and is attending Allen College of Nursing.

  • Madeline Humpal-Pash, the Linda K. Dasher Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship
  • Yiging (Merrina) Lan, the Mary Ann Carr Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship

Auxiliary Scholarship Recipients

The awards are given to exceptional high school students pursuing a career in health care and three of them have a Mary Greeley connection.

Recipients include:

  • Catelynn Adelmund, Nevada High School whose father, Eric Adelmund is a performance improvement coordinator in Quality Management
  • Molly Barten, Colo-Nesco High School whose mother, Mary O’Connor is a Nurse Practitioner in Homeward Hospice
  • Srishti Mathur, Ames High School has volunteered at the front desk and in the gift shop for the last three summers

Scholarships for Nurses

Anna May Allan Endowed Nursing Scholarship ($2,500)

The Anna May Allan Endowed Nursing Scholarship is awarded to an Iowa high school senior or graduate pursuing the study of nursing. To qualify students must have achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education and demonstrate a financial need.

Helen Sidles Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship (2 @ $1,000/each)

Each year the Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation awards two scholarships to nursing students entering into their final year of nursing school. To qualify students must have achieved a cumulative 2.7 GPA in the most recent level of education. 

J. Ben Buck Scholarship ($1,000)

The J. Ben Buck Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a health-related career. To qualify students must have achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. 

Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship ($1,000)

The Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship is awarded to a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee in Birthways who is a nursing student pursuing a career in obstetrics.

Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship ($1,000)

The Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to a Mary Greeley Medical Center nurse or nurse leader pursuing a master’s level degree or higher.

Opal Fagle Nursing Scholarship ($1,000)

The Opal Fagle Scholarship supports an annual scholarship awarded to an outstanding nursing student who possesses the charismatic character that will positively touch the lives of the people they come into contact with.

Nursing Legacy Scholarship ($500)

The Nursing Legacy Scholarship is awarded to a Mary Greeley Medical Center Registered Nurse pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with preference given to a nurse pursuing a degree through the Mary Greeley Medical Center on-site Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.

Scholarships for All Health Related Careers

J. Ben Buck Scholarship ($1,000)

The J. Ben Buck Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a health-related career. To qualify students must have achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education.

Scholarships for Graduate Level Study

Kimberly A. Russel Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship ($1,000)

The Kimberly A. Russel Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship fund supports an annual scholarship award to a graduate student employed by Mary Greeley Medical Center. To qualify recipients must have achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education.

Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship ($1,000)

The Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to a Mary Greeley Medical Center nurse or nurse leader pursuing a master’s level degree or higher.

Scholarships for High School Seniors

Mary Greeley Auxiliary Health Career Scholarship (2 @ $2,500/each; 10 @ $1,000/each)

The MGMC Auxiliary offers scholarships to high school seniors planning a career in health care. The Auxiliary scholarships are awarded to young people who attend the following high schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO, Gilbert, Nevada and Roland-Story.

J. Ben Buck Scholarship ($1,000)

The J. Ben Buck Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a health-related career. To qualify students must have achieved a cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. 

Mary Ann Carr Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship ($1,000)

The Mary Ann Carr Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship and the Linda K. Dasher Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship supports an annual scholarship awarded to one (1) student pursuing a career in health care.

Linda K. Dasher Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship ($1,000)

The Mary Ann Carr Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship and the Linda K. Dasher Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship supports an annual scholarship awarded to one (1) student pursuing a career in health care.
