Scholarships

Mary Greeley Medical Center has several scholarship opportunities for area high school seniors pursuing a health career, nursing students, and Mary Greeley Medical Center employees.

Applications for 2020 will be available no later than February 1, 2020. Applications for this year were due on March 29, 2019 by 4:00 p.m. For more information, please contact External Relations at 239-2147.

2019 Foundation Scholarship Recipients

The Mary Greeley Foundation recently announced their scholarship recipients for the 2019-2020 school year. The Foundation awarded 13 recipients from our established scholarships. Twelve of the 13 are Mary Greeley employees or have a volunteer connection. These scholarships not only support the education of health care professionals, but also honor individuals for their significant contributions to health care and Mary Greeley Medical Center.

Recipients include:

  • Misty Brooks received a Helen Sidles Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship. Misty in a RN on the Nursing Support Team and is earning her BNS at Iowa State.
  • Gina Crisman has been at Mary Greeley since 1989 and currently serves at the Surgery Clinical Coordinator. Gina is obtaining her BSN from DMACC and Chamberlain College of Nursing. She is being honored with the Nursing Legacy Scholarship.
  • William Krapfl is an Ames High graduate and his mother Anne Krapfl is a Meals on Wheels volunteer. He is receiving the Mary Ann Carr Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship
  • Thomas Lunaburg works on 5A Oncology as a PCT, working on his RN at DMACC. He received the Opal Hand Fagle Nursing Scholarship.
  • Charis Maldonado, 4th Floor PCT is attending DMACC to become a RN. She received the Anna May Allan Endowed Nursing Scholarship.
  • Kari Pape Rosentrater works as the Information Services Senior Systems Administrator. She is earning her Master of Healthcare Informatics, the study of taking data and turning it into usable knowledge, through St. Catherines University. Kari received the Kimberly A. Russel Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship.
  • Brandi Rahto is a Nurse in the Birthways Unit and is working on her Masters in Nursing – Leadership / Management degree at Western Governor’s University. She received the Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship.
  • Michelle Reichert and Joelle Schmidt each received a Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship. Michelle is the clinical supervisor on the oncology unit. She has worked at Mary Greeley for 11 years.  She is earning her Masters of Clinical Nurse Leadership through Morningside College. Joelle is the Director of Acute Rehab. She has been at Mary Greeley for almost five years – as a lead nurse, supervisor and now as director. She is attending Western Governors earing her Master’s in Nursing Leadership.
  • Kathryn Sharp works as an EMT at Mary Greeley and is a junior at Iowa State. She is pursuing a double-major in biology and music and will apply to medical school and Masters in Public Health programs this summer. She received the J. Ben Buck Scholarship.
  • Nicole Stupp is a Clinical Resource Nurse in Nursing Professional Development. She is working towards her Master’s in Nursing Leadership and Management through Western Governors University. She is receiving support through the Betty Riggs Burnet Nursing Continuing Education Fund.
  • Taylor Vincent is a Ballard-Huxley graduate who volunteered in valet services at Mary Greeley. She is receiving the Linda K. Dasher Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship

Mary Greeley Foundation & Auxiliary Scholarships 2019-2020 Academic Year

For Nurses

Anna May Allan Endowed Nursing Scholarship for a student who is or has graduated from an Iowa high school and is pursuing the study of nursing. Must be enrolled into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. Mrs. Allan was a registered nurse who worked for Mary Greeley both as a staff and private duty nurse. Her devotion to the nursing profession and interest in assisting students with their educations lead her to establish this scholarship. (One $2,500 Award)

Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship for a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee in the Birthways Unit who is enrolled in a course of study in obstetrics with a minimum 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. (One $1,000 Award)

J. Ben Buck Scholarship for a student pursuing a degree in a health-related career. Must be enrolled fulltime into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. The Buck family established the scholarship to recognize J. Ben Buck’s contributions to his chosen profession as a dental technologist, a pre-hospital emergency care provider, a member of the research team that developed a respirator which has improved the health of many infants. (One $1,000 Award)

Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship for a Mary Greeley Medical Center nurse or nurse leader pursuing a master’s level degree or higher. Must be enrolled full or part-time into an advanced degree program at an accredited college. Preference given to applicants demonstrating leadership and community involvement. Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship was established to honor the 45 year nursing career of Phyllis Crouse, RN, BSN, MPH and to support the mission of nursing. (One $1,000 Award)

Opal Fagle Scholarship for a student who is pursuing a career in direct patient care, including but not limited to nursing. Must be enrolled into an accredited college. Preference will be given to Mary Greeley Medical Center employees and to those who possess the charismatic character that will touch the lives of the people they come in contact with. This scholarship was established to honor Opal’s legacy in nursing. (One $1,000 Award)

Nursing Legacy Scholarship for Mary Greeley Medical Center RN pursuing a BSN. Must be enrolled, either full- or part-time into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. Preference is given to a nurse pursuing a degree through Mary Greeley Medical Center’s on-site BSN program. (One $750 Award)

Helen Sidles Undergraduate Nursing Scholarshipfor nursing students entering into their final year of nursing school with a minimum 2.7 GPA in their most recent level of education.  Given to one Mary Greeley employee and one student not employed at Mary Greeley. Mary Greeley applicants may be full or part-time students. Non-Mary Greeley employees must be full time students. (2 @ $1,000/each)

For All Health Careers

Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship for a Mary Greeley Medical Center nurse or nurse leader pursuing a master’s level degree or higher. Must be enrolled full or part-time into an advanced degree program at an accredited college. Preference given to applicants demonstrating leadership and community involvement. Phyllis E. Kimberly A. Russel Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship for employees of Mary Greeley Medical Center pursuing a masters or doctoral level degree. Applicant must be enrolled into a graduate program and demonstrate financial need. Kimberly A. Russel served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mary Greely for more than 12 years. Through her vision and innovation the medical center grew to be the medical center of choice providing specialized care with a personal touch to Story County and surrounding counties. This scholarship was established to recognize her leadership. (One $1,000 Award)

For High School Seniors

Foundation Scholarships:

Auxiliary Health Career Scholarships for graduating seniors from selected area high schools pursuing a career in healthcare. Must either attend one of the following high schools OR be a child / dependent of a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee or volunteer, regardless of high school location. High schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Applicant must be enrolled full-time into an accredited college in a course of study leading toward a career in the healthcare field. (Two $2,500 awards and 10 $1,000 awards)

Mary Ann Carr Health Career Scholarship 
for graduating seniors from selected area high schools pursuing a career in healthcare. Must either attend one of the following high schools OR be a child / dependent of a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee or volunteer, regardless of high school location. High schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Applicant must be enrolled full-time into an accredited college in a course of study leading toward a career in the healthcare field and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship was established by the Mary Greeley Auxiliary to recognize Mary Ann’s service and leadership of the Gift Shop. For more than thirty years Mary Ann Carr served as the Gift Shop manager. Through her vison and innovation, the Gift Shop serves as the largest fundraising activity for the Auxiliary. Proceeds from the Gift Shop support the Mary Greeley Medical Center’s mission and vision. (One $1,000 Award)

Linda K. Dasher Health Career Scholarship 
for graduating seniors from selected area high schools pursuing a career in healthcare. Must either attend one of the following high schools OR be a child / dependent of a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee or volunteer, regardless of high school location. High schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Applicant must be enrolled full-time into an accredited college in a course of study leading toward a career in the healthcare field and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship was established by the Mary Greeley Auxiliary to recognize Linda’s service and leadership of the Gift Shop. For more than thirty years Linda K. Dasher served as the volunteer Gift Shop buyer. Through her vison and innovation, the Gift Shop serves as the largest fundraising activity for the Auxiliary. Proceeds from the Gift Shop support the Mary Greeley Medical Center’s mission and vision.(One $1,000 Award)
