Scholarships

Mary Greeley Medical Center has several scholarship opportunities for area high school seniors pursuing a health career, nursing students, and Mary Greeley Medical Center employees.

There is one application for all Foundation scholarships and one application for all High School scholarships. The deadline for fully completed scholarship applications is March 21, 2022. Scholarship reference forms are due March 28, 2022.

Scholarship Information

  • Selection is made without regard to gender, ethnicity or religion.
  • Scholarship awardees will be chosen by the corresponding Scholarship Selection committee, both for the High School and Foundation scholarships.
  • Scholarship disbursement will be paid directly to educational institution in July for classes taken between fall 2022 and spring 2023. No outright gifts to recipients will be made.
  • You will need the following information to complete your application:

      IMPORTANT: a reference request email is automatically sent to your references upon submitting the application.
    • Verification of enrollment (or prior to disbursement if not currently available)

For Nurses

Anna May Allan Endowed Nursing Scholarship for a graduating Iowa high school senior or is a graduate from an Iowa high school and is pursuing the study of nursing. Must be enrolled into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. Mrs. Allan was a registered nurse who worked at Mary Greeley both as a staff and private duty nurse. Her devotion to the nursing profession and interest in assisting students with their education led her to establish this scholarship. ($2,500)

Auxiliary Endowed Birthways Scholarship for a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee in the Birthways Unit who is enrolled in a course of study in obstetrics with a minimum 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. ($1,250)

J. Ben Buck Scholarship for a graduating Iowa high school senior or is a graduate from an Iowa high school and is pursuing a degree in a health-related career. Must be enrolled fulltime into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. The Buck family established the scholarship to recognize J. Ben Buck’s contributions to his chosen profession as a dental technologist, a pre-hospital emergency care provider, and member of the research team that developed a respirator which has improved the health of many infants. ($1,000)

J. Elaine Hieber Scholarship (New this year) for a student who is pursuing a career in direct patient care, including but not limited to nursing.  Must be enrolled into an accredited college and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA in their most recent level of education. Preference will be given to Mary Greeley Medical Center employees. As the retired senior associate athletic director at Iowa State University who has had 30 years of active involvement with Special Olympics, Elaine recognizes and values the support and involvement MGMC provides both entities. This gift is in appreciation of all Mary Greeley does for Ames and the surrounding communities. ($1,000)

Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship for a Mary Greeley Medical Center nurse or nurse leader pursuing a master’s level degree or higher. Must be enrolled full or part-time into an advanced degree program at an accredited college. Preference given to applicants demonstrating leadership and community involvement. Phyllis E. Crouse Nursing Legacy Scholarship was established to honor the 45 - year nursing career of Phyllis Crouse, RN, BSN, MPH and to support the mission of nursing. ($1,250)

Opal Fagle Scholarship for a student who is pursuing a career in direct patient care, including but not limited to nursing. Must be enrolled into an accredited college. Preference will be given to Mary Greeley Medical Center employees and to those who possess the charismatic character that will touch the lives of the people they come in contact with. This scholarship was established to honor Opal’s legacy in nursing. ($1,250)

Nursing Legacy Scholarship for Mary Greeley Medical Center RN pursuing a BSN. Must be enrolled, either full or part-time into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA. ($1,000)

Helen Sidles Undergraduate Nursing Scholarship for nursing students entering into their final year of nursing school with a minimum 2.7 GPA in their most recent level of education. Given to one Mary Greeley employee and one student not employed at Mary Greeley. Mary Greeley applicants may be full or part-time students. Non-Mary Greeley employees must be full time students. ($1,000)

Mary Ann and Jim Black Emergency Services Scholarship for a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee pursuing a degree that pertains to a career in emergency services. This scholarship was established to recognize the excellence of Mary Greeley’s Mobile Intensive Care Services and Emergency Services. Because the need for educated and trained personnel in this field is critical to Ames and surrounding communities, this award will support employees pursuing a degree related to emergency services such as a Paramedic Associate degree, a Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) degree for work in critical care, or other related degree. ($1,000)

Kimberly A. Russel Auxiliary Endowed Scholarship for employees of Mary Greeley Medical Center pursuing a masters or doctoral level degree. Applicant must be enrolled into a graduate program and demonstrate financial need. Kimberly A. Russel served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Mary Greely for more than 12 years. Through her vision and innovation, the medical center grew to be the medical center of choice providing specialized care with a personal touch to Story County and surrounding counties. This scholarship was established to recognize her leadership. ($1,250)

For All Health Care Careers

J. Ben Buck Scholarship for a student who is or has graduated from an Iowa high school and is pursuing a degree in a health-related career. Must be enrolled into an accredited college with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA in their most recent level of education. The Buck family established the scholarship to recognize J. For High School Seniors

Mary Ann Carr Health Career Scholarship for graduating seniors from selected area high schools pursuing a career in healthcare. Must either attend one of the following high schools OR be a child / dependent of a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee or volunteer, regardless of high school location. High schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Applicant must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA, be enrolled full-time into an accredited college in a course of study leading toward a career in the healthcare field and demonstrate financial need.  This scholarship was established by the Mary Greeley Auxiliary to recognize Mary Ann’s service and leadership of the Gift Shop. For more than thirty years Mary Ann Carr served as the Gift Shop manager. ($1,000)

Linda K. Dasher Health Career Scholarship for graduating seniors from selected area high schools pursuing a career in healthcare. Must either attend one of the following high schools OR be a child / dependent of a Mary Greeley Medical Center employee or volunteer, regardless of high school location. High schools: Ames, Ballard-Huxley, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, Gilbert, Nevada, Roland-Story or South Hamilton. Applicant must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA, be enrolled full-time into an accredited college in a course of study leading toward a career in the healthcare field and demonstrate financial need.  This scholarship was established by the Mary Greeley Auxiliary to recognize Linda’s service and leadership of the Gift Shop. For more than thirty years Linda K. Dasher served as the volunteer Gift Shop buyer. ($1,000)


Foundation Scholarships:
