Used alone or as a complement to other therapies, massage therapy can help in a variety of ways—treating painful muscles, improving circulation, increasing joint flexibility, and reducing mental and physical fatigue. It is also used to treat chronic pain, decrease anxiety, support immune function and help as sports injuries and other muscle stress or trauma heal.
At Mary Greeley Medical Center, massage therapy is offered by the Rehab & Wellness department both at the Medical Arts Building in Ames and at Lifetime Fitness Center in Story City.
Types of Massage Therapy at Mary Greeley Medical Center

- Deep-tissue massage, which involves varying degrees of pressure to target deep muscle tissue in problem areas
- Reflexology applies pressure to reflex areas of the feet, restoring the body's natural balance and encouraging healing throughout.
- Prenatal massage works to help alleviate some of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Specially designed equipment comfortably supports the mother-to-be.
