Laboratory Services

A simple blood test can check for the presence (or absence) of vital elements in your body, and it can let a doctor know if you’re fighting a disease. At Mary Greeley Medical Center, our full-service laboratory performs a variety of tests and screenings to help evaluate your health.

Quality Accredited Laboratory

Mary Greeley Medical Center offers a full-service laboratory for tests. Our lab professionals do everything from simple wellness screenings to complex orders from specialty physicians in oncology, endocrinology, obstetrics and other medical disciplines. Our laboratory serves Mary Greeley Medical Center, our dialysis centers and McFarland Clinic.

Laboratory Services provides:

  • physician-ordered testing for both inpatients and outpatients at the hospital
  • professionally accredited personnel on duty around-the-clock to collect blood and conduct tests that are requested on an emergency basis
  • a variety of tests to the public on a walk-in basis. The tests are confidential, offered for a small fee and do not require a physician referral

When are blood tests done?

Most lab tests are collected between 4:30 and 6 a.m., although some patients need only a couple of blood tests during their stay. A patient being closely monitored may require a blood test two, three or four times a day. Most tests will take about an hour. For those tests that are sent to a reference lab, they may take 24, 48 hours or longer, depending on the test.

Who collects and tests my blood?

Your blood is collected and tested by professionally accredited members of the laboratory staff, overseen by a medical doctor specializing in the area of laboratory medicine.

When will results of my blood tests be available?

Your blood test results will be immediately available electronically to your physician as soon as they are finished. If your physician is not connected through our laboratory’s electronic medical record, the results can be faxed or mailed. Most tests that are performed at Mary Greeley Medical Center will take about an hour. For those tests that are sent to a reference lab, they may take 24 hours, 48 hours or longer, depending on the test. Your physician will share results of your blood tests.

Results of your blood tests will be reported to the doctors and nurses caring for you and become a part of your permanent medical record.

The Mary Greeley Medical Center Laboratory is located on the second floor of the medical center and is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Outpatients may access the lab from Elevator A Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Get Directions).
