Inpatient Cancer Care

Oncology Unit at Mary Greeley Medical Center

The fifth floor of the west patient tower
is dedicated to caring for oncology patients,
and features the Burke Family suites
that offer a home-like atmosphere.

The Mary Greeley Medical Center Inpatient Oncology Unit offers 16 private rooms and Burke Family suites where patients receive personal and specialized cancer care.  The suites have two separate areas – one for the patient and another for the family – that are connected by a sliding door. The oncology floor also offers access to Mary Greeley's beautiful rooftop garden.

Our compassionate staff is specially trained to focus on the physical and emotional needs of cancer patients. Registered nurses certified in oncology and chemotherapy administration work with board-certified medical and radiation oncologists to deliver care, including chemotherapy, intravenous (IV) therapy, blood transfusions, pain management, symptom management and end-of-life care.

Commission on Cancer

Commission on Cancer Accreditation

The William R. Bliss Cancer Center has been recognized by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons as offering the very best in cancer care. It is a recognition of the quality of our comprehensive, multidisciplinary patient care. Accreditation by the CoC is given only to those facilities that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality cancer care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance. To maintain accreditation, facilities with CoC-accredited cancer programs must undergo an on-site review every three years.

How We Treat Your Cancer

We treat most form of cancers in adults, including breast, colorectal, gastrointestinal, kidney, leukemia and blood-related cancers, lung, lymphoma, prostate, thyroid and many others. Once your cancer is diagnosed, our board-certified oncologists work with you to develop your personal treatment plan. We may combine one or more of the following treatments to fight your cancer in the best possible way:

Two specialties at The William R. Bliss Cancer Center offer you care and treatment options. They include:

  • Medical oncology: If you have or are at risk for cancer, our medical oncology team will work with you on prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Hematology: Our hematology specialists focus on care if you are diagnosed with blood disorders, either benign and malignant.

During your diagnosis and treatment, specialized nursing care is an essential part of your team. The nurses at The William R. Bliss Cancer Center, many of them certified by the Oncology Nursing Society, deliver unparalleled care. They work directly with oncologists at every step to ensure continuity of care including chemotherapy, intravenous (IV) therapy, blood transfusions, pain management, symptom management and end-of-life care. They are also able to focus on your preferences for treatment and provide education for you and your family about your disease and your options.

Finally, our Palliative Care program works with both patient and family to create a plan of action and provide specialized medical care for people with cancer. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms, pain and stress to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families.
