Free Screenings Offered at Mary Greeley's 'Hernia-ween' Event on Monday, Oct. 29

AMES, IA – If you’re afraid you might have a hernia, be sure to attend “Hernia-Ween” at Mary Greeley Medical Center on Monday, Oct. 29.

Dr. James Partridge, McFarland Clinic general surgeon, will perform free hernia screenings and speak on “The Benefits of Robotic Hernia Repair.”

“Hernia-ween” begins at 5:30 p.m. in Bessie Myers Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available.

A surgical robot will also be on display and those in attendance will have an opportunity to play with it.

A hernia occurs when tissue pushes through an opening in your abdomen or groin area. Symptoms can include a noticeable bulge or lump in the groin or abdomen, pain at the site of the bulge, and gastrointestinal discomfort.

Partridge has repaired thousands of hernias and performs hernia repair surgeries with a surgical robot. The benefits of robotic surgery include less bleeding, less pain, less reliance on pain medication and quicker healing.

Partridge will screen men and women for umbilical, ventral and inguinal hernias. The screenings will be conducted in a private space and will take just a few minutes to perform. If your screening indicates a problem, you will have an opportunity schedule a follow up appointment with Partridge.

“Hernia-Ween” is sponsored by Mary Greeley Medical Center and McFarland Clinic.

Questions about the event can be directed to Mary Greeley Community Relations, 515-239-2129.
