Bliss Cancer Resource Center Receives $10,000 Transportation Grant to Benefit People in Cancer Treatment
AMES, IA – The
American Cancer Society
(ACS) has awarded the
William R. Bliss Cancer Resource Center
a $10,000 transportation grant.
The grant will assist with transportation expenses for patients who require financial assistance to attend their treatments. The Bliss Cancer Resource Center is based at Mary Greeley Medical Center and is a service of Mary Greeley and McFarland Clinic. In 2025, the Cancer Resource Center received an ACS grant that provided 292 one-way rides and served 77 cancer patients from throughout central Iowa.
In a 2023 Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI)
study
, American Cancer Society researchers found that delayed care due to lack of transportation is associated with increased emergency room use and mortality risk among adults with and without cancer history.
