Mary Greeley Medical Center Named 'Top Performer' by Joint Commission

AMES, IA -- Mary Greeley Medical Center has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission.

Mary Greeley was recognized for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve patient care for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.

Selection was Top Performer distinction was based on data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year. To be selected, Mary Greeley had to achieve a 95 percent or above score on a variety of accountability measures. One accountability measure, for example, was giving aspirin to a heart attack victim when they arrive at the medical center, while measured whether antibiotics are given one hour before a surgery.

This recognition demonstrates that we’re doing what’s right for our patients by delivering clinical interventions in the right way and at the right time.”

The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards. The Joint Commission recognized 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. as Top Performers based on their performance related to certain conditions, including heart attack, pneumonia, surgery, children’s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, immunization for pneumonia and influenza, stroke, and venous thromboembolism.
