Mary Greeley Medical Center's Annual Benefit for William R. Bliss Cancer Center Features Preakness Stakes

AMES, IA – Mary Greeley Medical Center will host the 2012 Annual Benefit supporting the William R. Bliss Cancer Center on Saturday, May 19, at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames.

The benefit will raise funds for several Mary Greeley Medical Center cancer services, including a new oncology unit that will be located in a six-story patient tower now under construction. The unit will feature 16 inpatient rooms, including three family suites, an outpatient treatment suite and access to a rooftop garden. The new tower and oncology unit are scheduled to open in 2014.

While raising funds in support of vital cancer services, the event also promises to be a great time. This year’s benefit features the second leg in the Triple Crown series with a live viewing of the Preakness Stakes. Guests will also have the opportunity to enter a High Roller’s Poker Tournament, win raffle prizes and bid on great auction packages.

The program will also feature special guest Jessica Clem sharing her cancer journey and experiences at the William R. Bliss Cancer Center.

The event will close with a special appeal to raise funds to support the Cancer Resource Center’s boutique. The generous supports of donors make it possible to provide a complimentary wig or head covering to patients dealing with treatment-related hair loss. In 2011, 96 wigs were provided free of charge to cancer patients.

Tickets cost $75 per person and include drinks and elegant hors d’oeuvres throughout the evening. Reservations are required and can be made over the phone or in person at the Mary Greeley Medical Center External Relations office.

This event is made possible in part by the generous support of businesses and individuals who participate in Mary Greeley Medical Center’s Sponsorship Program. For more information, go to www.mgmc.org or call 515-239-2147.
