Knowing when to refer patients with inflammatory arthritis to a rheumatologist, which patients can be managed locally and when to initiate therapy.

Description

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1)    Identify 3 features of the history and physical exam that suggest an inflammatory arthritis

2)    Know that arthrocentesis is the most important initial step in a patient with inflammatory monoarthritis

3)    List 4 causes of inflammatory polyarticular arthritis

Professional practice gap that will be addressed: Knowing when to refer patients with inflammatory arthritis to a rheumatologist, which patients can be managed locally and when to initiate therapy.

 Target audience: Physicians, mid-level providers, nurses
