There is considerable confusion on how to implement the new lipid treatment guidelines, especially in view of established practice of treating patients to 'lipid goals'.

Description

At the conclusion of the activity, learners will be able to:

1)    understand the basis for new lipid treatment guidelines issued by the AHA/ACC to reduce cardiovascular disease

2)    understand the advantages and limitations of the new guidelines

3)    understand how to incorporate these guidelines in everyday clinical practice

Professional practice gap to be addressed: There is considerable confusion on how to implement the new lipid treatment guidelines, especially in view of established practice of treating patients to 'lipid goals'. This activity will aim to explain the basis for the new approach and how to effectively employ this ins everyday clinical practice.

Target audience: Physicians and mid-level providers
