Description

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1)    Know what tests might help with establishing a diagnosis of dementia.

2)    Understand the pathological process in Alzheimer's disease and some potential treatments

3)    Consider a differential in evaluating a patient with dementia

Professional practice gap that will be addressed: Evaluating dementia is a challenge and the frequency of the diagnosis is increasing.  This presentation will review different diagnostic tools and hopefully enhance the process of diagnosis and consideration of the differential.  An understanding of the pathological process is essential to understanding some of the intervention which may soon be available.

Overall goal: Hopefully with this presentation healthcare practitioners will be more at ease with identifying dementia and consider the possible diagnoses and treatments.

Target audience: Physicians, mid-level providers, nurses
