Description

At the conclusion of the activity, learners will be able to:

1) Understand that palliative radiation therapy using stereotactic radiotherapy is safer and requires fewer trips to a radiation therapy facility.

2) Understand the new treatment options for palliation, including more aggressive treatment of patient with limited metastatic disease

3) Be aware of the options and types of problems utilized in palliative radiation therapy.

Professional practice gap to be addressed: Shorter courses of radiation are now recommended utilizing new clinical trial information.  New radiation capability here at MGMC allows participation in the new palliative guidelines for radiation therapy.

Overall goal: The use of palliative radiation improves the quality of life of our cancer patients and now requires fewer treatments and less risk and side effects.

Target audience: Physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, health care administrators
