Description

At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

1)    Identify the protean manifestations of celiac disease and how they may present to the clinician.

2)    Understand the testing utilized to screen for and diagnose celiac disease.

3)    Recognize the management plan for a patient with celiac disease but at the time of diagnosis, and in follow-up.

4)    Appreciate the conditions that are associated with celiac disease.

Professional Practice Gap to be addressed: Celiac disease is under-recognized, and many patients present to medical attention with non-intestinal manifestations of the disease.  Additionally, many patients with celiac disease are not adequately followed up.  We will review the varying presentations of celiac disease, how to effectively work up a patient with celiac disease, the management and follow-up of a patient with celiac disease, and other associated conditions to be aware of.

Overall goal: To educate clinicians on when to consider celiac disease in a patient, how to evaluate for celiac disease, and what to do if celiac disease is diagnosed.

Target audience: Physicians, mid-level providers
